“Leap” Into Better Mentoring with AugMentors

By Julie Meyer & Jimmy Edgerton, Co-Founders of AugMentors

After more than 100 podcast episodes on the inspiring topic of mentoring, we at AugMentors have learned many lessons, including the role of mentor as guide – someone who sees you at the beginning of your journey and helps you grow to your potential.  Sometimes that is a slow, prodding journey, taking small steps and adjustments.  And sometimes it is one, big, giant LEAP!

When we learned our friends over at Experience Institute were hosting more than 70 Leap events in 30 countries to celebrate Leap Day on Feb 29, we knew we had to be a part of it!  The goal for these events was to supporting individuals on taking big leaps in their lives by coming together and committing in community.  The AugMentors event included ten friends and podcast guests gathered in Baltimore at the Fox Den near Patterson Park.  We ate, we laughed, and we shared ways we plan to “leap” into better mentoring by connecting more authentically with others and growing to their potential.  From starting a basketball clinic for the community to engaging more authentically with mentees in our lives, our leaps are inspiring but actionable and timebound.

The event was great reminders of not only the importance of mentoring, but the importance of community.  If you would like to join the AugMentors movement, listen to our podcast on all your favorite platforms, including this great episode with MENTOR Maryland | DC’s own Renee Angelo-Mauk!
