LGBTQ Terms & Trends

One of MENTOR MD|DC’s favorite facilitators, Clarissa Herman, MA, returns to get you and your program ready for Pride Month! This training lays a foundation of knowledge for LGBTQ identities, terminology, development, and cultural expectations. We will talk about when and how LGBTQ identities emerge in young people, what the many different terms mean, how to use gender-neutral language & pronouns, and how to repair after mistaking someone’s identity.

Some examples of what we will cover include:

-The difference between sex, genital presentation, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and pronouns

-Common sets of pronouns, including neo-pronouns

-What misgendering someone sounds like and what to do when it happens.
